Yesterday was beautiful, today is cold and gray, tomorrow will be warm again. Your typical DC February. Speaking of seasons... Tax season 📉 is coming up, and there are some free resources you can take advantage of this year to make it easier. The DC Public Library is offering free tax prep at some neighborhood libraries for DC and MD residents. You'll need to make an...

Federal aid was ordered frozen, throwing nonprofits like Meals on Wheels into a funding crisis. A federal judge ordered a short stay on the order yesterday. Federal workers were ordered to return to working in person, and some contractors are reporting that they will need to work onsite as well....

There are two events I really want to highlight for history buffs: The house history workshop with DC Preservation League at the DC Public Library is always in high demand. Sign up while you can. History & genealogy is basically gossip, and you can find some good gossip, like the woman who used to live in my house and how she put her married affair partner down as living with her in a census...

If you haven't lived in DC during an inauguration, let this list of closures be a warning that you don't want to go downtown. If you have lived here during the recent ones, it probably won't even be as big/busy as his first inauguration, judging by hotel occupancy rates (influenced by both attendees and protestors). Metro and the roads are all messed up for the inauguration. Don't try to go...

With the snow turning to ice and (maybe?) more on the way, there's no denying winter is here. President Carter lies in the Capitol Rotunda through Thursday morning, with the procession to the National Cathedral for his funeral on Thursday. This plus the vote certification on 1/6 has meant lots of road closures, but most are reopened now. For...

A few things to know around DC: Southeast Tennis and Learning Center is expanding, with groundbreaking next Wednesday, increasing indoor tennis facilities in DC as well as outdoor tennis and pickleball. You can see the in depth plans here. It's cold 🥶 and getting colder. Expect more cold air and wind to come in this afternoon, making the windchill drop low. But, after this arctic blast, we're getting some warm weather coming Sunday. The metro is going to be all kinds of messed up December...

Happy Thanksgiving! Staying in DC around the holidays is fun. You can explore the city without the crowds, find parking fairly easily wherever you go, and have the opportunity to chill out. I hope that wherever you are, you do something that lights you up inside. I'll be hosting my parents, cooking Ina Garten's Perfect Roast Chicken instead of a turkey (10/10 recommend), and hopefully Lil Mikey will be earning a new BARK Ranger badge! I'm continuing with highlighting more events that are put...
