Volunteer with us!

If you're looking to be outdoors while making DC a more beautiful place, join us for a volunteer morning at Dumbarton Oaks Park!

Originally part of Dumbarton Oaks estate, it was designed by the first female landscape architect. Due to lack of funding, they need our help in preserving the beauty.

We're partnering with Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, Spur Local, and City Girls Who Walk DC to do some good!

Join us on Saturday, September 21 at 9:00 AM. Spots are limited!

Things to Know in DC

Humane Rescue Alliance has been over capacity for some time now since the post-COVID uptick in adopting pets. I've noticed that they've been putting new programs in place to help the dogs get a break from the shelter with less hoops to go through.

They have had their People and Animal Cardio Klub (PACK) for some time, where you can take a shelter dog out and take them for a run or long walk.

This weekend, they are looking for weekend fosters to give some dogs a break from the shelter. You can pick up a dog Thursday through Saturday and return them Sunday through Monday.

They've also started promoting their Field Trip opportunities. I couldn't find more information about this on their website, so it's not clear if it's the same program as PACK.

Over the past year, they've really been promoting their short term foster program (part of their Test Drive program) to help give the dogs a break. I did it last year over Christmas, and my parents ended up adopting the dog I fostered! They're happy, with Zon living her best, silly life.

Things to Eat in DC

As a part of Art All Night, DC is promoting Dine All Night to highlight the city's culinary artistry. Participating restaurants will have a special Dine All Night menu item.

It runs from tomorrow, Thursday 9/18 through Sunday 9/29.

However, the Dine All Night website is still being updated with participants and is incomplete--I know of two restaurants participating (Axtondo will have a crispy duck breast dish and cocktail, and Catrachitos will be participating too) who are not listed yet.

Because of this, it's unclear how many restaurants will be participating since the website is incomplete. When you go out to eat, ask if they're participating in Dine All Night just to check!

Making friends as an adult is hard, and a lot of you want more ways to make new friends. I know that a common New Year's resolution is to put yourself out there more, so over the next couple months, I'm focusing more on things to do with groups that meet up regularly. Going to regularly-scheduled events with similar groups of people is a great way to get to know people better and connect. I've found that the hardest part is hanging out regularly, so these events will help you do that over a...
